To support research in astronomy — through the adoption of stars.

Persons excluded from the Event

Excluded from participating in the Event are:

Minors under the age of 18 years old
Employees, collaborators and associates of Ptolemy Stars Ltd, their relatives, and affiliated societes

Participation in the Event

Every person who adopts a star for €9.80 will be supporting the study of astronomy at Astronomy 2009.
Everyone who adopts a star will be issued a star certificate and will be entitled to adopt another star free of charge and receive an additional star certificate.
For every 2,500th star that a person adopts from the Ptolemy Stars Ltd. catalogue (not including those received as gifts), he or she will be eligible to receive one of the prizes (notebok, car, apartment) listed below.
Prizes will be sent out within 90 days of star adoption.
Stars will be adopted in ascending order from 1 to 50,000 (every set) from the Ptolemy Stars Ltd. catalogue.
For every 2,500 stars adopted, Ptolemy Stars Ltd. will send €1000 to Astronomy2009
The event, this may still be repeated several times with the same way. The opportunity to participate in a similar Adopt a Star event may occur in the future.
To participate in Adopt a Star, participants must visit www.ptolemy-stars.com, enter their email address on the form, and accept the terms and conditions. Then they can proceed with the star adoption following the terms and conditions specified.
Failure to complete one of the mandatory fields will preclude participation from the event.
Following payment, an email will be sent confirming the number of stars adopted, the corresponding prize, and the additional star(s) free of charge.
At the end of the event, the prize winners will be announced on ptolemy-stars.com.
Ptolemy Stars Ltd. does not assume any responsibility for the failed transmission or receipt of information due to malfunctioning of the internet.
Personal details which are incomprehensible, incomplete, or false will be considered invalid, and the participant will lose eligibility to participate in this event.
Before confirming the prize winners, Ptolemy Stars Ltd. is entitled to verify whether the terms and conditions for participation have been respected.

Number of Prizes, Description and Market Value

There are 20 prizes:

10 notebooks, each with a maximum value of €1000,00 inclusive of financial burdens, taxes and distribution costs;
9 cars, each with a maximum value of €15.000,00 inclusive of financial burdens, taxes, and distribution costs;
1 apartment with a maximum value of €100.000,00 inclusive of notary expenses, financial burdens, and taxes.

Prize Delivery

Notebooks will be sent to the residential address of the prize winner;
Cars will be delivered to the dealer identified by the promoter near the residential address of the prize winner. Delivery will be inclusive of the purchase, registration costs, warranty, financial burdens, and taxes up to the maximum value indicated above;
The apartment will be in a location indicated by Ptolemy Stars Ltd.; alternatively, the apartment may be in a location indicated by the prize winner. Delivery will be inclusive of the purchase and all related expenses up to the maximum value indicated above.

The prizes above may be paid in cash upon request of the prize winner.

Liability for Prize Defects

Ptolemy Stars Ltd. bears no liability if the prize is used improperly by the prize winner, or if it used by a person who because of age or psychophysical conditions is inadequate. Nor is the promoter liable:

In the cases of the notebooks and cars, for damages and malfunctions for which all the guarantees of the production or distribution/wholesale companies and their relative limitations or extensions referred to in these guarantees apply.
In the case of the apartment, for defects, flaws, including hidden defects and flaws, regularity of the building, damages and malfunctions for which all the guarantees provided by the builder and technicians involved in the construction apply.

Prize Winner Notification

To communicate the allocation of a prize, Ptolemy Stars Ltd. will send an email notification. Once notified, prize winner has thirty days to provide the documentation required to receive the prize. The prize will only be delivered to the assignee or to a person delegated by proxy.

Prizes Not Available on the Market or Modified from Those Listed

The prize winner cannot claim that the prize indicated and pictured in the advertising material be delivered in that form if, at the time in which the prize is allocated, that specific prize is not available due to exceptional circumstances or other reasons which fall outside the responsibility of the promoter. The prize winner will receive a prize of the same nature and with the same value as those listed. The values indicated in article 6 are thus the only elements that are not subject to variation.

Prize Delivery Time

The prizes will be delivered on the fifteenth of each month and within the maximum period of 90 days after the adoption of 2,500 stars.

Prizes Not Claimed or Not Assigned

Unclaimed prizes shall be sent, at the end of this event, to Astronomy 2009.

Revocation of the Promise or Modification of the Modality of Execution

Ptolemy Stars Ltd is at any time entitled to revoke or modify the modality of execution of this event for a reasonable cause, by prior notification to the participant in the same or equivalent form in which the participant subscribed to it.

Publication of the Terms and Conditions

The terms and conditions that regulate this event and the list of prizes are published on the web at www.ptolemy-stars.com.
The terms and conditions that regulate this event and the list of prizes are deposited at Ptolemy Stars Ltd. 135, Albert Street Auckland, New Zealand.

Use of Personal Information

Personal details and information will not be given to third parties for advertising purposes or for any other reasons which are not strictly linked to the certificates and the prizes listed in the terms and conditions.

Disputes

In case of disputes an arbitration panel composed by three auditors of the New Zealand Companies Office will be nominated.
